The underdog is often the person no one believes in—the reject, the outcast. This painting reflects what it means to come from the bottom, all the odds against them, to feel cut off from society and pushed aside.

Yet the underdog often carries a stronger drive in competition, fueled by the need to prove something—to others and to themselves. It isn’t easy; I know that firsthand. I grew up as an underdog myself.
